# CLI: Run your company from the terminal.

> Oatmilk in your terminal: a full-screen app with Ask AI, scripts and MCP for your agents, and a setup that runs it all on your own computer.

[Get started](https://app.getoatmilk.com/sign-up) · [Sign in](https://app.getoatmilk.com/sign-in) · [Docs](https://getoatmilk.com/docs.md) · [llms.txt](https://getoatmilk.com/llms.txt)

## How it works

1. Paste the install line: One line installs it. It needs Node.js 22 or newer, or use npm or npx.
2. Sign in, make an account or stay local: Use Oatmilk Cloud, make an account in your browser, or keep everything on this computer with no account.
3. Type oatmilk: The full-screen app opens on your books. ⌃K jumps anywhere and ⌃O asks Ask AI.

## What it does

- **⌃K to any page, record or theme.** One key jumps to any page, record, action or theme, the same pages as the web app.
- **No account, no internet, if you like.** Keep everything on this computer: books, files, sign-in and AI, set up by one command.
- **Your own AI, on your computer.** Ask AI and the classifier run on Ollama or LM Studio, with models that fit your memory and pass Oatmilk's checks.
- **Email through your Resend account.** oatmilk email use resend turns on email for your own install with one key.
- **JSON and exit codes for scripts.** Every command prints JSON with --json and returns clear exit codes for CI.
- **Oatmilk's tools for your agents.** oatmilk mcp serves Oatmilk's tools to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents.

## Install

```sh
curl -fsSL https://getoatmilk.com/install.sh | sh
```

Needs Node.js 22 or newer. Or `npm install -g @getoatmilk/cli`, or run it once with `npx @getoatmilk/cli`. Docs: https://getoatmilk.com/docs/terminal

## Three ways to start

The first time you type `oatmilk`, it asks how you want to use it:

- **Sign in to Oatmilk.** Use your Oatmilk account. The browser opens once to approve the terminal.
- **Make an Oatmilk account.** New here? Make one in your browser, then come back and sign in. Same as `oatmilk signup`.
- **Keep everything on this computer.** No account needed. Needs Docker, Bun and Ollama or LM Studio; the first start takes about 10 minutes.

`oatmilk setup` asks again any time.

## Online or offline

Eight parts (sign-in, books, files, Ask AI, classifiers, reading documents, email and web research) each run on this computer, in the cloud, or off. `oatmilk status` shows how local you are, like `85% local`. With every part on this computer, Oatmilk keeps working with no internet. See https://getoatmilk.com/local.

## Check your models

After you change models, `oatmilk models eval` runs Oatmilk's own tasks on them: sorting a dozen charges, reading receipts, and Ask AI questions that need tools. Each task has a bar to clear. It says whether the models are good enough and, if not, which model to try. Name other models with the same flags as `oatmilk models use` to try them before you switch, and add `--json` for scripts. See https://getoatmilk.com/local-models.

## Email

On Oatmilk Cloud, Oatmilk sends your email. On your own install, `oatmilk email use resend` connects your Resend account with one key, `oatmilk email test <address>` sends a test, and `oatmilk email` shows where email stands.

## Scripts

```sh
oatmilk -p "What needs me today?"
oatmilk api entries.list '{"limit":2}' --json
oatmilk hours add 2h "Design review"
oatmilk status --json
oatmilk mcp config
```

## More from Oatmilk

- [Classifier](https://getoatmilk.com/classifier.md): Each bank and card line runs through rules, memory, receipts and Jev. Oatmilk sorts it only when it's sure, and asks you one question when it isn't.
- [Evidence matching](https://getoatmilk.com/evidence.md): Oatmilk reads receipts from your company's inboxes and matches each one to its charge. It asks you when it isn't sure and keeps the original.
- [Bookkeeping](https://getoatmilk.com/bookkeeping.md): Bank, card, Wise and Stripe charges come in and get sorted. Oatmilk asks you only when it isn't sure.
- [Compliance](https://getoatmilk.com/stay-compliant.md): Ask any rules question and get an answer with official sources. Guides, deadlines and rule changes for your company, in one place.
- [Invoices](https://getoatmilk.com/invoices.md): Make an invoice in a minute, send it, and see when it's opened and paid.
- [Agreements](https://getoatmilk.com/agreements.md): Write an agreement, send it to sign on any device, and keep every signed copy with a full record.
- [Contractors](https://getoatmilk.com/contractors.md): Contractors send hours from their own portal. You approve with a tap, pay with Wise and get tax slips at year-end.
- [Tax](https://getoatmilk.com/tax.md): Year-end for Canadian companies, one plain question at a time. T2, GST/HST and T4A work, ready for your accountant.
- [Ask AI](https://getoatmilk.com/ask-ai.md): Ask a question about your company and get a straight answer. Ask AI reads your books and asks before it changes anything.
- [Accountants](https://getoatmilk.com/accountants.md): Invite your accountant to see the books and help with year-end. You pick what they can do and when it ends, and every action is on the record.
- [Run it locally](https://getoatmilk.com/local.md): Run Oatmilk on your own computer with the CLI and the web portal, or choose where each part runs: this computer, the cloud, or off.
- [Local models](https://getoatmilk.com/local-models.md): Run Ask AI, the classifiers and document reading on Ollama, LM Studio or any OpenAI-compatible server. Mix local and cloud by role.
- [AI connectors](https://getoatmilk.com/mcp.md): Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex and more to Oatmilk. Your AI can do what you can do, and nothing more.
